How to get a reservation at Via Carota

The short version

Via Carota doesn't run like most hard-to-book West Village rooms — there's no dinner-rush Resy scramble to win. Instead, the trattoria holds back the majority of its tables for walk-ins, so the line, not the app, is the real reservation system here.

When reservations drop

Via Carota does release a limited allotment of Resy tables 30 days out at 10:00 AM ET, but these are a small fraction of total seating — don't expect the volume of tables you'd see at a fully-reservation restaurant. Most nights, the majority of the dining room is set aside for walk-ins instead.

The walk-in play

This is where Via Carota is actually won. Arrive by 5 PM and put your name on the walk-in list — on a prime-time Friday or Saturday, expect a two-to-three-hour wait once the list fills, but on quieter weeknights a 5:30 PM arrival can mean a much shorter wait. Lunch is consistently easier than dinner, and if you're out late, after 9:30 PM the initial rush has usually cleared and tables free up faster.
